When to seek help

When to see a physiotherapist

Early assessment and the right exercises can help reduce pain, improve movement and prevent the problem from coming back.

You should see a physiotherapist if:

  • You have fallen or nearly fallen
  • You feel unsteady when walking
  • You get dizzy when you turn your head or roll in bed
  • You have stopped going out because of fear of falling
  • A family member is worried about your safety

Seek urgent medical care if you:

  • Sudden dizziness with slurred speech, face drooping or arm weakness
  • A fall with a head injury
  • Fainting or blackouts
  • Sudden hearing loss with severe dizziness

If you have any of these, call Rescue 1122 or go to your nearest emergency department — don’t wait for a physiotherapy appointment.
